Awesome August Almost Arrives

Mark your calendar... Tuesday, August 9th will be our last Night Relief Society of the summer.  Dinner will be served promptly at 6:30 by our Awesome food committee, Cindy, Leslie, Jean, and Tara.

We hope there will be something for everyone with the 4 classes we are offering.  If you are undecided about what class you want to take or unsure whether you will be able to attend, as always, you can still come and sit in on any of the classes.  Bring a friend, a neighbor, a daughter, all are welcome.

A nursery will be provided.  It would be helpful if you would let us know if you will need the nursery.  Call Amiee B. or email us at fabulousfallon4th@hotmail.com.

One Hour Life Story - Have you ever wanted to get your life story written down but felt overwhelmed by the task.  This class will simplify the project and show you how, in about an hour, you can write all the basic, important information of your life.  Then as you have time, you can add to your writings as much or as little as you like.  This outline can also be used to interview family members, parents, and grandparents, as you gather family histories. It really makes it easy!

Family Home Evening - This month we are making an all-purpose game board that can be used with any lesson or activity AND a family favorite game "Don't Eat Pete".  Write your own T or F questions, fill in the blank, or answer as a team and it's a great way to review!  There will be a small charge for supplies.

Quote Book/Scripture Journal  - We will be making a vintage style journal book that can be used for your favorite quotes, poems, thoughts, and scriptures.  It will be similar to the photo below, covered with heavy fabric and fit in with your scriptures or in a purse.  ( I love mine!)  We are thinking around $6 to $8 dollars.

There will not be time to take more than one class but the game board could be made at home if you want just the supplies.  Due to the time involved for preparation there will be a limit of 1 per person.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Thanks To All

We had a great turn-out for our July Meeting.  Surprising for a summer month so a BIG thanks to all who came and all who helped with the evening.

Brenda H., Kelli Y., and Lisa B. talked about ESP - Emotional, Spiritual, and Physical well-being and we all went home with some good reminders of ways to improve and strengthen ourselves.  It is so nice to have a mid-week "pick me up".

Shirl T. taught a group of ladies some basic water aerobics and it was a real kick! (Get it?)  Meanwhile sisters were trying their aim at horseshoes and others were visiting.  We don't often have an opportunity to just visit and get to know each other a little better so this was a rare treat to gab.

We want to thank our food committee for the night, Erin L. Annie C. Julie S. Shawna L. and Lisa B. We ladies are always so glad we didn't have to cook for the night!

A very special thanks goes to Susan R. for opening her home, yard, and pool to us.  We all know what kind of work goes in to getting a home ready for company, so we really appreciate Susan for her generosity.  ( And Carl for mowing the lawn)

Grandma's Summer Project

Calling all Grandma's!  Here's a summer project you can do for your grandchildren.  Put together some stories, games, and activities for Family Night.  This is a wonderful Christmas gift and you can make it as simple or as over-the-top as you want.
Start with some basic games that can be used for lesson review or just for fun.  Like Fish: make a fishing pole out of a stick with a string tied to one end and a magnet on the other.  Make fish out of colored cardstock and attach paperclip to mouth.  Who doesn't love a good game of fish??  So simple but an old favorite too.
Make an all purpose game board that can be pulled out any time to review to a lesson.  The person has to answer the question correctly to move his game piece.

A good place to start with Family Night Ideas is the Children's Friend.  There are tons of stories, activities, and pictures that can be torn out or copied from the magazine or printed from online. Obviously there are many websites and blogs that have FHE ideas.  Place in a file and label.  Include in a zip lock bag the essentials:  chalk, eraser, pencils, markers, crayons, tape, dice, paper, scissors and anything else that would be convenient to have ready for FHE.
Now Mothers, you can jump on the bandwagon too. This could be a fun summer project for you and the kids.  Everyone can get involved coloring, cutting, choosing games and stories.  Once you've made up your stories and activities and organized them into a convenient place, you will always have them.  Especially for those Mondays when time is short and you just want to "grab and go"!
Good Luck and Happy Family Home Evening!

F.H.E. Balloon Fun

Volleyball - Tape or in some way attach a string across a room in your house.  Choose teams for the game.  Score as in regular volleyball.  But the fun part is everyone has to sit on a chair (sit on floor, or kneel) and they cannot move from their seat (or position).  They can stretch and reach but not "lift" off the chair or floor.  You can also play with a giant punch ball.

Balloon Tag - Choose someone to be it.  He must chase other family members around as he hits the balloon. Confine this activity to 1 room.  When he is able to hit the balloon so it touches another person then that player becomes it.

Octopus - Blow up about 10 to 15 balloons.  Place them in a pile on the floor.  Give the player 2-3 minutes to pick up and hold as many balloons as possible.  They may use any part of their body but must remain standing.  The one who holds the most wins!

Balloon Juggle - Everyone has a balloon which they throw in the air at once.  The object is to keep hitting ALL the balloons in the air and not let them touch the ground.  You can add more balloons as you get going. See how long everyone can keep the balloons in the air.

Balloon Bop - Stand in a circle.  Toss a balloon in the air and call someone's name and a body part (arm, hand, nose, etc.) which that person has to use to keep the balloon in the air.  Then "that" person calls another person's name and body part, and so on.

Balloon Stomp - Tie a thread about 12 inches long around a balloon and then tie it around the players ankle.  All players must try to stomp on and break each others balloons.  A player who's balloon breaks is out until there is l person left.  Can play with teams and same color balloons.

Pass It On -  Everyone sits on a chair in a circle.  Pass the balloon around the circle using only feet.  It can be made more difficult when more balloons are added and direction changes are called out.

After dinner there will be water aerobics (yes, you read correctly)for those brave enough to put on a swimsuit!! (you can wear shorts too)  This will be taught by Shirl Thomas.  Shirl teaches water aerobics at the base so we'll be in good hands.

For those with a tamer activity in mind we will have horseshoes, croquet, and badmitten.  If that makes you tired just thinking about it, relax, visit, and enjoy watching everyone else!

We will wrap up the evening with fruit smoothies!  We encourage you to bring your friends and neighbors...all are welcome.

Because we will be meeting at the Robertson home, a nursery will NOT be provided.  Sorry.  We hope you will have enough time to arrange for your own babysitting.

June's Healthy Tip

Now that warmer weather is here proper hydration is more important than ever!  The amount of water required varies by person.  Factors that can affect this include climate, physical activity, diet and body weight.  To calculate the minimum amount of water you require daily, take you body weight and divide it in half.  The result will be the number of ounces of water you should drink daily.  Remember you will need to increase this amount if you are physically active or spending time outside in the heat.

June RS Meeting...a BERRY good night.

A BIG Thank You to all those who were able to attend last night. To those of you who were not able to come, we missed you and hope to see you at one of our upcoming summer meetings.  Strawberries, Gardening, and The Golden Rule were the themes of the night.  Below is a recap.

Our dinner for the evening was in capable hands with Lisa as chairman and Krista, Trillis, Kelli, and Pat on the committee.  We also had lots of help with clean-up from you sisters.  Thanks a ton.

For dinner we had "Grandma's Vegetable Soup" a recipe that my mother (Pat) made us all the time and has become a family favorite.  It was passed down from her grandmother.  (The secret is in the soup bone)  To compliment the soup was a garden salad with Lisa's homemade garlic croutons...oh my!!  Dessert was sitting in front of us all through the meal, enticing us to eat it first.  Cream cheese filled tarts topped with strawberries.

"I left my kids home with my husband and I have a feeling
that I'm going to be really late."

"Hurry and take the picture so we can eat".

They're really smiling because they didn't have to cook tonight!!

After being threatened that their picture would be taken with a mouthful of food,
Erin and Lori were quick to cooperate with big smiles.

After dinner and a little birthday singing we all went our merry way to classes.  Flower Gardening was held in Pat's back yard.  Michelle Nelsen, a Master Gardener gave us some great tips on Perennials and Annuals, watering, transplanting, what grows well here, and so on.  Did you know that "coco mulch" is great for your flower beds and it smells good too??  Or that Rose bushes, Forsythia, Red Twig Dogwood, and Red Barberry do really well in Fallon, but Azalea's not so well?  Everyone went home with a little perennial "start" and a pledge to make their yards look like the Garden of Eden.  (Well, kinda like that)

Our Veggie Gardening class was held at Daisy's home.  She gave us some wonderful tips on how to make our garden a success.  Some of her tips included soaking your seeds in warm water for 3 days prior to planting, making sure to feed your plants every 2 weeks and mixing a little potting soil into your ground before planting.  Those that attended the class even enjoyed some wonderful homemade snacks as we toured Daisy's garden.  Just look at those plants grow!!

Krista prepared the FHE class, everyone went home with the story "Live the Golden Rule".  It's a story about Mr. Happy who visits a place called "Unhappy Land" where Mr. Lazy, Mr. Noisy, Mr. Mean, Mr. Uppity, Mr. Messy, etc. lived and they were miserable.  Mr. Happy taught them why and how they could change so that they could be happy too.  Then they were known as Mr. Helpful, Mr. Quiet, Mr. Nice, Mr. Friendly, Mr. Clean....etc.  Also included was a lesson on Love One Another for older children.

Our food class was all about strawberries.  Trillis taught the sisters how to make freezer jam (easy as pie) and demonstrated how to make Strawberry Salsa.  Check out the "Ward Cookbook" for recipes.  Everyone left with some BERRY delicious recipes!
